In Ljubljana all the buses require the fare to be paid by special card and don't accept credit cards (maybe it's changing now) or cash. Card has to be bought before the ride in one of the vending machines (they're many in the city) — called urbanomat. One of such machines is near the train/bus station, the other is near our home. 

Card costs 2€ (not returnable, but we have some cards at home, you can use them) and then you'll need to put some money onto it, that will be spent on the rides. One ride costs 1.3€. Urbanomat accepts cards and cash both!
