Few scientific disciplines have penetrated everyday discourse as strongly as the science of nutrition. Most of us would not be able to name basic concepts from geology or Oceanology, while nutritional concepts such as vitamins, proteins or calories are completely mundane and ubiquitous. The lecture will follow the uneven and unexpected path of food science from its humble beginnings, ranging from innovations in animal feeding in the 19th century. in the XIX century, until its rise to global recognition as the foundation of humanitarian standards 20. century. The lecturer will touch on the following questions: how the discipline, initially intended for animals, was translated into human needs; how the professional discourse co-created the politics of international organizations and what remains for us today when we think about the history of nutrition and about the nutrition of history.
