culture exhibition

The group exhibition of vegetation presents the works of four visual artists who, in their work, dedicate themselves to different aspects of the depiction and treatment of nature through the perspective of art. In their practices, they are engaged in addressing the relationship of man to the natural environment, which in different periods of history, as well as in modern times, was inevitably manifested and reflected in the dominant visual culture and art.

Although many civilizations in the course of history have succeeded in establishing an apparent dividing line between wild nature and human-produced culture, the aforementioned distinction is now increasingly proving to be forced and artful. Nevertheless, it was nature that was the eternal inspiration in the creation of culture and art, as they constantly summarized its forms, structures and modes of action. The attitude of man to the natural environment was therefore always two-faced: on the one hand, extremely competitive, because man wanted to subjugate and control nature, but also symbiotic, because he always perceived it with a very special admiration and awe. The works in the vegetation exhibition thus reflect the deep attachment and connection of the participating artists with everything earthly, which is largely evidenced by the completely different ways of using vegetative or plant elements. The four artists are united mainly by the extreme diversity of their authoring practices: Nika Erjavec presents herself with a new media spatial installation, Tina Konc with a series of large format drawings, Tea Kralj with a painting cycle and Tilakven Mucik mainly with a set of photographs in an expanded field. In their lucid, engaged and multifaceted artistic practices, the artists show man's dependence on nature and on the environmental ills of the modern world.

Štiri ustvarjalke druži predvsem skrajna raznolikost njihovih avtorskih praks: Nika Erjavec se predstavlja z novomedijsko prostorsko instalacijo, Tina Konec s serijo velikoformatnih risb, Tea Kralj s slikarskim ciklusom in Tilyen Mucik predvsem z naborom fotografij v razširjenem polju. Umetnice v svojih lucidnih, angažiranih in večplastnih umetniških praksah kažejo na človekovo odvisnost od narave in na okoljske tegobe sodobnega sveta.
