Conversation and projection

As part of the back2back events, we invite domestic and international authors to present their production and establish a dialogue with works from the DIVA station archive of their own choice. This time the guests are visual artist Nika Tomazic, who works in the field of new media, Intermedia, film and video. She conceived the program from the DIVA station archive based on her latest short film I, deconstructed (2024).
LIBERT / EGALIT / EGALIT / ABSURDIT /
The Program consists of films that I was led to by a newly established reflection, derived from my short experimental film I, deconstructed (2024), which is an expedition into the nature of man. The original focus – the conflict as the core of human existence, the constant struggle between its cruelty and feeling-today, in the light of the degradation of humanity and the illusion of Rights on a global scale, acquires a new aspect of the absurd .
But not the absurdity in Camus ' sense, but the total cognitive dissonance that arises from witnessing the worst cruelties, abuses and lies that not only go unpunished, but are packaged and sold as Justice.
Absurd in terms of banal scrolling reels on Instagram, where shots from bombs of emaciated bodies and influencer tips for makeup and diets alternate.
Absurd in terms of the perversion of existence in a system that shamelessly ravages, slaughters and rapes while selling you matcha and labubu. In a system that sees you not as a free-sentient being, but only as an ore that powers the machinery of extracting infinite profit, until the last drop of humanity oozes out of you and spits you out.
This almost comical level of disfigurement of human dignity in the collective unconscious finds a valve in cynical humor that acts as a bridge between the extreme poles of the original conflict . The Program tries to recreate the experience of traveling through this emotional spectrum, reflecting scrolling through images where banality and humanity, horror and humor alternate endlessly without resolution.

Nika Tomazic (1995) is a visual artist from Ljubljana who works at the intersection of new media, Intermedia, film and video. In his work, he explores opposites and dualities, which he contrasts and mirrors at the same time. He connects" serious", immersive art with playful, humorous production, through which he relativizes the world, art and himself. It draws inspiration from Natural Sciences, Technical Sciences, philosophy, mysticism, humor and internet culture. Her films and exhibitions have been presented both in Slovenia and abroad. For her short film on emotions and the second law of thermodynamics, she received the FIPRESCI Prize for best Slovenian film at the FeKK Festival in 2020, and the first prize for the Automata project at the MFRU in 2022.
