The Shantel artistic family, which connects Styria with Primorska, is already well aware of Slovenian art and music history, but so far the Maribor stay of the three women painters has been unexplored.
In the first part of the exhibition we will focus on Augusta Shantel Jr. (Gorica, 1876-Ljubljana, 1968), a painter, musician and teacher who, after serving in several Slovenian and Istrian towns, came to Maribor in 1920 and got a job at II. girls ' bourgeois school.
In recent times, her work has been presented several times at smaller overview exhibitions in the places of her service, and the present research exhibition at UGM Cabinet focuses on her Maribor period, in which she devoted herself to graphic art in addition to her many years of painting. With the exhibited works, we also emphasized her depictions of flowers and landscapes. Among these, after a hundred years, some works that were created and presented already in the Maribor period will be on display again.
In the foreground will be works from the collection of the Maribor Art Gallery, and the artist will be presented mainly with the previously undiscovered works of private owners who responded to the invitation from UGM. curators: Breda Kolar Sluga and Igor long Amukka
Umetniška družina Šantel, ki povezuje Štajersko s Primorsko, je že dodobra v zavesti slovenske umetnostne in glasbene zgodovine, a doslej je bilo mariborsko bivanje treh slikark še neraziskano.
V prvem delu razstave se bomo posvetili Avgusti Šantel ml. (Gorica, 1876 – Ljubljana, 1968), slikarki, glasbenici in učiteljici, ki je po službovanju v več slovenskih in istrskih krajih prišla v Maribor leta 1920 in dobila službo na II. dekliški meščanski šoli.
Njeno delo je bilo v novejšem času že večkrat predstavljeno na manjših preglednih razstavah v krajih njenega službovanja, pričujoča raziskovalna razstava v UGM Kabinetu pa se osredinja na njeno mariborsko obdobje, v katerem se je ob svojem dolgoletnem slikarskem ustvarjanju posebej posvetila grafiki. Z razstavljenimi deli smo poudarili tudi njeno upodabljanja cvetja in krajin. Med temi bo po sto letih znova na ogled nekaj del, ki so nastala in bila predstavljena že v mariborskem obdobju.
V ospredju bodo umetnine iz Zbirke Umetnostne galerije Maribor, umetnico pa bomo predstavili predvsem z doslej še ne razstavljenimi deli zasebnih lastnikov, ki so se odzvali na vabilo UGM. kustosa: Breda Kolar Sluga in Igor Longyka
