TONE KRALJ (1900, Zagorica pri Dobrepolje – 1975, Ljubljana), painter, graphic artist and sculptor, studied in Prague and studied in Vienna, Paris, Venice and Rome. His stylistic development follows from Art Nouveau through Expressionism, the new reality to the so-called Monumental realism in the years after the Second World War. The exhibition has been on display since 1974, it was redecorated in 2013.
On 15.6.2013, we presented a new exhibition, which includes 88 art exhibits, and some of the basic works were also borrowed from related institutions (Moderna galerija Ljubljana, Museum and galleries of the city of Ljubljana, Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia, Slovenian Ethnographic Museum and Maribor Art Gallery). The layout is conceived chronologically, stronger emphasis is placed on the period of study improvement in the early twenties, in the early thirties, especially with the theme of the portrait, his ‘novelty’ orientation is more thoroughly presented, and some works with a characteristic socially critical note for the King are added. In the period after II. STs. at the forefront of the war was the illustrating cycle, and woodcuts, especially from the Earth cycle, which is meaningfully completed by the interweaving of the theme of Carnival and wedding, which Tone Kralj dealt with throughout the entire opus. In addition to family portraits, the motifs of historical scenes of peasant revolts and wars, peasant and working life, as well as biblical scenes and illustrations dominate. The exhibition also included a documentary about the life and work of Tonet Kralj, filmed by Dr. Igor Kranjec and Sasha Vrabic in the production of the municipality of Dobrepolje.
Igor Kranjec in Sašo Vrabič.
