Tuesday, 10. 2. 2026, within the framework of the film View cycle at 18.00, we invite you to the plant - the space of art and participation, to a lecture by Tinkara Ursic Fratin entitled The Disintegration of the image as a narrative potential.
In the digital age, Film is being established as a physically intangible audio-visual medium, but it is still derived from a physical material - film tape. In order for it to retain its original state, it must be stored in specific conditions, which is often not (was) guaranteed. This is how the process of decomposition, disintegration and transformation begins, which, in turn, potentially gives rise to New, different forms of images and, consequently, narratives. In the lecture, with regard to the use of archival or found material, using the example of experimental films by the American creator Bill Morrison, we will look at how such images work in the context of the narratology of film - what narrative potential (can) have decaying images, which were already conceived by the ravages of time.
The lecture will be hosted by Dr. Maja Pan.
she holds a master's degree in English and Comparative Literature and is completing a master's degree in film and television studies. As a film and literary critic, she regularly collaborates with the magazines Ekran, Kino! and literature, and on the corridor online platform she is a co-editor of the film section. It also cooperates with various film festivals, such as the festival of Slovenian Film Portoroz and Kino Otok. She is a member of the FIPRESCI society, and in 2024 she was included in the Talents Press program as part of the Sarajevo Film Festival.
The cycle is organized by the film factor/, the Magdalenska network Bakery and the Maribor library, with the support of the Slovenian Film Centre and the municipality of Maribor.
it is a cycle of lectures that aims to bring the art of cinema closer to a wider audience through an in-depth treatment of various theoretical and critical approaches. In this year's cycle, we will explore how the disintegration of the filmstrip opens up new forms of images, as well as counter - how it is possible to reconstruct the story with the help of images. We will pay special attention to the cinematic experience of watching a movie. We will discuss the connections between comics and film as self-made Arts and explore the role of architecture in film. We will also be interested in the phenomenon of science fiction series and their messages over decades of television, as well as the real impact of artificial intelligence on filmmaking. We will look into the images of women on the film screen and reveal patriarchal patterns in film stories, while paying tribute to the Palestinian political film movement again and reflecting on how film shapes our ways of seeing and understanding the world
The film View cycle is a continuation of the film View cycle (2025), the cycle film genres through social criticism (2023, 2024), where we focused our attention on rethinking the connections between film genres and social phenomena, the Cycle Theory of film (2022), where we learned how viewers can apply various theoretical views to their own viewing of all kinds of films, and the cycle history of film (2021) through which we learned the basics of film history.

Pogovor ob predavanju bo vodila dr. Maja Pan.
