The Mahones enjoy a great reputation among fans of Irish punk and are considered one of the pioneers of Irish celtic punk. The band formed in 1990 on St. Patrick's day in Kingston, Canada, initially for a one-off show, but the reaction from the audience was so strong that it quickly became clear that this was the beginning of a serious story. The band was formed by Irish immigrant Finn / McConnell, and the Mahones soon grew into one of the most recognizable Di / C punk bands.
Their music has received rave reviews for years, and they have built a loyal fan base around them around the world. Nevertheless, due to their Canadian roots, they have remained somewhat in the shadow of more well-known American names such as Flogging Moll / / and Dropkick Murph//, with whom they have also shared European tours in the past.
Every year they travel across Europe and North America, performing practically everywhere – from the largest cities to the smallest clubs. They have a rich discography of studio albums behind them, as well as numerous compilations, concert releases, "best of" records and even tribute albums. Especially resonant was the album The Black Irish, which met with a very good response from both the audience and critics. After years of personnel changes, the Mahones have settled into a strong and well-coordinated lineup, which today is also complemented by an outstanding accordion.

The Mahones med ljubitelji irskega punka uživajo velik ugled in veljajo za ene od pionirjev irskega celtic punka. Skupina je nastala leta 1990 na dan svetega Patrika v kanadskem mestu Kingston, sprva zgolj za enkraten nastop, a je bil odziv občinstva tako močan, da je hitro postalo jasno, da gre za začetek resne zgodbe. Skupino je ustanovil irski priseljenec Finny McConnell, The Mahones pa so kmalu prerasli v eno najbolj prepoznavnih DIY punk zasedb.
Njihova glasba že leta prejema odlične kritike, okoli sebe pa so si zgradili zvesto bazo oboževalcev po vsem svetu. Kljub temu so zaradi kanadskih korenin nekoliko ostali v senci bolj znanih ameriških imen, kot sta Flogging Molly in Dropkick Murphys, s katerimi so v preteklosti delili tudi evropske turneje.
Vsako leto so na poti po Evropi in Severni Ameriki, kjer nastopajo praktično povsod – od največjih mest do najmanjših klubov. Za seboj imajo bogato diskografijo studijskih albumov ter številne kompilacije, koncertne izdaje, »best of« plošče in celo tribute albume. Posebej odmeven je bil album The Black Irish, ki je naletel na zelo dober odziv tako publike kot kritikov. Po letih kadrovskih sprememb so se The Mahones ustalili v močni in uigrani zasedbi, ki jo danes dopolnjuje tudi izstopajoča harmonika.
