Brazil in 1977. The military dictatorship is carrying out increasing repression against the civilian population. Marcelo is an academic and technologist in his forties trying to escape from a turbulent past. He wants to return to his hometown of Recife to find peace there and reconnect with his son. However, he soon discovers that the city is far from the Safe Harbor he expected. The local carnival is in full swing, and the cheerful mood contrasts perfectly with the feeling of political repression that keeps the inhabitants in a crunch. The threat, however, is just beginning for Marcel: his own neighbors are constantly monitoring him, and a much greater danger lurks behind his back.
Director Mendon Aluca Filho is a real veteran of Cannes-six years ago he won the jury prize with the film Bacurau.

Drama o politični diktaturi v Braziliji sedemdesetih let, s katero je Wagner Moura na festivalu v Cannesu osvojil nagrado za najboljšega igralca.
Brazilija leta 1977. Vojaška diktatura izvaja vse večjo represijo nad civilnim prebivalstvom. Marcelo je akademik in tehnološki strokovnjak v štiridesetih, ki poskuša zbežati pred burno preteklostjo. Vrniti se želi v svoje rojstno mesto Recife, da bi tam našel mir in se spet povezal s svojim sinom. Vendar pa kmalu odkrije, da je mesto daleč od varnega pristana, ki ga je pričakoval. Tamkajšnji karneval je v polnem razmahu, veselo razpoloženje pa je v popolnem kontrastu z občutjem politične represije, ki drži v krču prebivalce. Grožnja pa se za Marcela šele začenja: njegovi lastni sosedje ga nenehno nadzorujejo, za njegovim hrbtom pa preži še veliko večja nevarnost.
Režiser Mendonça Filho je pravi canneski veteran – pred šestimi leti je nagrado žirije osvojil s filmom Bacurau.
