The University of Nova Gorica invites you to a public lecture, which will be given by doc. Dr. Tina Skorjanc (laboratory for Materials Research, University of Nova Gorica), entitled LEGO at the level of atoms: Nobel Prize in chemistry 2025 .
The lecture will take place on Thursday, 15. in January 2026, at 17. hours at the Lanthieri mansion in Vipava.
Summary:
Metal-organic frameworks (English. metal-organic frame animatorks, MOFi) are materials built from metals and organic molecules as a position at the atomic level and with a lot of ordered empty space in the form of pores. As part of this popular lecture, we will find out that well-designed pores in MOFs are crucial for the functioning of these materials as "super absorbent sponges". MOFs catch gases, purify water and enable new technologies. If you are curious to know why this ingenious idea was worthy of a Nobel Prize in 2025, you are invited to the next Science evening at UNG.

Univerza v Novi Gorici vabi na javno predavanje, ki ga bo imela doc. dr. Tina Škorjanc (Laboratorij za raziskave materialov, Univerza v Novi Gorici), z naslovom LEGO na ravni atomov: Nobelova nagrada iz kemije 2025 .
Predavanje bo potekalo v četrtek, 15. januarja 2026, ob 17. uri v dvorcu Lanthieri v Vipavi.
POVZETEK:
Kovinsko-organska ogrodja (angl. metal-organic frameworks, MOFi) so materiali zgrajeni iz kovin in organskih molekul kot LEGO na atomski ravni ter z veliko urejenega praznega prostora v obliki por. V sklopu tega poljudnega predavanja bomo ugotavljali, da so dobro zasnovane pore v MOFih ključne za delovanje teh materialov kot »super vpojnih spužev«. MOFi namreč lovijo pline, čistijo vodo in omogočajo nove tehnologije. Če vas zanima, zakaj je bila ta domiselna ideja leta 2025 vredna Nobelove nagrade, vabljeni na naslednji Znanstveni večer na UNG.
Predavanje bo potekalo v angleškem jeziku.
