ABOUT THE PROGRAM
With the twelfth solo concert cycle and at the same time the first, which marks the entry into a new decade of the choir's activity, the decor Chamber Choir, under the direction of conductor Peter Novak Smolic, focuses on the path that leads to light and peace and explores love and loss.
A prayer for all who have left before us and for all who will remain when we are gone – a Requiem by the contemporary American composer Michael John Trotte, in its first performance on our soil, will address the interplay of feelings that every person feels facing death and questioning its role. The composition, for which Trotta drew inspiration from his own experience of the premature death of his father and the comforting power of music, juxtaposes and confronts the feelings of peace and fear most often associated with the experience of death. While intertwining the tradition of Gregorian chants and paying tribute to the great masters who marked classical music lovers all over the world with their exceptional tunings of the Mass for the Rhine, he adds his pebble to the mosaic of this exceptional musical form by incorporating modern harmonic language and approaches to the presentation of the text and rich harmonies.
The composer's prayer for all to find peace when faced with the unknown is also conveyed by the chamber choir to the accompanying part of the program, which addresses our compassion, discomfort, temptation, Vanity, helplessness and, knowing that death will never prevail over life, merges into the path to peace, towards the light that shines in eternity.
The decor Chamber Choir (2015) was already focusing on programme innovation, maturity and diversity when it was founded. The fundamental vision of the choir is a weighty, content-rounded programme with numerous first performances on Slovenian stages. The band brings together experienced choir singers from all over Slovenia, who in the past have been trained in renowned national and foreign compositions. Great choral enthusiasts collaborate with established guest conductors on a project basis, in order to maintain a broad view of the extensive choral literature and to perform music of different expressions and stylistic periods.
PETER NOVAK Smolic is a choral conductor of the younger generation, who works at the Maribor Conservatory of music and ballet as a professor of music-theoretical subjects and choirmaster of high school choirs.
After graduating from High School Novo mesto and Conservatory of music Jurij Slatkonja in Novo Mesto, he enrolled at the Academy of music in Ljubljana and graduated in 2014 in the class of prof. Mark Mihevc from composition and music theory. He was trained as a conductor by Sebastjan Vrhovnik and improved his knowledge at seminars with world-renowned lecturers (Matti H Amaktkki, Gar / Graden, Christian Klucker, Natalia Alaka Lukina and Florian Meier). He has been an active choir director for 20 years, during which time he has led numerous ensembles (Vocal Group Tempus, MEPZ of the parish of Dobrnic, MEPZ of the parish of Ljubljana – Podutik, APZ Risto Savin, Terz 6uartet and The Boys', Girls ' and mixed Youth Choir of the Maribor Conservatory). He was also assistant conductor of the apz Tone Tomsic University of Ljubljana and worked as a guest conductor with MEPZ Obala from Koper.

O PROGRAMU
