ROMES – Raw Overdriven Mind Expansion Systems – je elektronski rock duo bratov iz Toronta v Kanadi. Par združuje analogni kaos z digitalno natančnostjo in ustvarja edinstven, visokonapetostni zvok, ki črpa vplive od grungea in elektra iz 90-ih do industriala in dance-punka. Debitantski album dua SONIC TRASH (ki izide neodvisno 14. novembra 2025) je abraziven, a hkrati uglajen, elektronika, a hkrati globoko človeška. Združuje elemente DIY eksperimentiranja in distorziranih sintetizatorjev z močnimi ritmi ter punk energijo in etosom, ki spominjata na obdobje bloghousa.
ROMES – Raw Overdriven Mind Expansion Systems – is an electronic rock duo of brothers from Toronto, Canada. The pair meld analog chaos with digital precision creating a singular, high-voltage sound drawing influence from 90s grunge and electro to industrial and dance-punk. The duo’s debut album SONIC TRASH (releasing independently on November 14 2025) is abrasive yet polished, electronic yet deeply human. It combines elements of DIY experimentation and distorted synths with hard-hitting rhythms and the punk energy and ethos reminiscent of the bloghouse era.
Siblings Jacob (lead vocals, guitar, synths) and Nicolas (drums) have spend years honing their chops and take full artistic control over everything they do, from their music production, mixing, mastering, and artwork, to merch design and video direction. This independence allows the duo to remain sharply focused on their vision – a project that pushes boundaries until something new breaks through the noise.
Before they were out of elementary school, the two brothers were recording demos on an 8-track mixer in their parents’ basement, experimenting with different production techniques using the limited technology available to them. Now, with an arsenal of synths, guitars, and pedals, ROMES bridge glitched-out analog sounds with blistering modern production. The brothers’ love for gear and experimentation is showcased on their social media channels – where they constantly innovate with out-of-the-box production techniques such as using acoustic drums to trigger modular synthesizers. This hybrid approach where synths and traditional rock instruments not only coexist, but feed off of each other, has led them to collaborate with and work on projects for Call of Duty and Moog, among many others. As NME described “the pair helped fuck up the more polished moments of the score with snarling guitar and thundering drums” (in regards to ROMES’ work on Call of Duty Black Ops 6).
ROMES’ live show – a living system of machines, drums, and guitars all locked in feedback – oscillates between pounding riffs and warped electronics. The result is an unpredictable yet cohesive experience that bridges past and future, organic and synthetic. Rhythmically hypnotic four-to-floor beats quickly evolve into thrashy rock grooves producing a visceral show suited to both dance floors and mosh pits alike.
In a world where everything is over-curated and polished to perfection, the raw and unfiltered energy ROMES bring to their music through unconventional means is a breath of fresh air. Embracing distortion and grit, the brothers intentionally keep their production rough around the edges. Wired for late nights and sweaty clubs, ROMES’ sound bridges the divide between human emotion and analog imperfections. Po hvaljenem debitantskem albumu »Red Light Habits« njihovo pot od poletja 2023 zaznamuje neustavljiv zagon. Vsak koncert je eksplozivna mešanica z znojem prepotenih ritmov, divjih kitarskih riffov in surove energije. Z izrazom, ki spominja na najboljše dni grungea, očarajo občinstvo od prvega do zadnjega takta. Po turnejah z skupinami, kot so Soulfly, Skid Row in Dirty Honey, jih že slavijo kot »eno najboljših mladih rock skupin v Nemčiji«. Z drugim albumom »House of Commando« gostujejo po vsej Evropi in nastopajo v najbolj priznanih klubih v državi.
Njihov zvok je divja fuzija živahnih ritmov, rezalnih kitarskih riffov in nalezljivih refrenov.
