About the workshop
The workshop will be dedicated to learning about Italian dances from 15. century. The dances that we will get to know belong to the collection of choreographies recorded in the works of Guglielmo Ebre and Domenico da Piacenza, which today are among the most important sources of dance technique of that period.
We will discover the aesthetics, elegance and social context of these dances and learn how movement, music and history are intertwined into a holistic art experience.
No dance background required-the workshop is open to all lovers of dance, music and history!
17. and 18. december 2025, 18.00-20.30 Central Hall of the Regional Museum Koper
Why historical dance today?
Although we do not have direct sources for the Slovenian space from this time, the geographical location and strong connection with the Italian Renaissance tradition rightly indicate that our space was also part of this cultural circle. The restoration and reenactment of historical dances today is not simply a return to the past, but a way to understand it through the experience of body and movement. Historical dance combines art, knowledge and sensuality – in IT, body posture, rhythm and social relations are intertwined into a living form of cultural heritage. At a time when we are looking for links between tradition and modernity, these dances offer us the opportunity not only to observe history, but literally to experience it. On the Slovenian coast, where the influences of Veneto and Italy are still felt in space and architecture, this tradition returns to its original environment – and Koper with its historical identity is becoming a natural stage for its revival.
About the workshop leader
Tanja Skok, a graduate of the London Contemporar Music Dance School, is one of the few Slovenian experts who are deeply involved in historical dance. For more than twenty years he has been researching and teaching dance forms from the early Renaissance to the baroque, seeking bridges between historical sources and contemporary artistic expression. Her work moves at the intersection of Dance, Theatre and Cultural Heritage Research. As a dancer, choreographer and pedagogue, she has collaborated with many renowned ensembles, theatres and institutions across Europe, the USA and Japan, presenting historical dance repertoires and contemporary interpretations of past forms of movement. In her artistic approach, she combines the precision of a researcher and the sensitivity of a creator, understanding dance as a space between art and science – as a living practice that connects the body, intellect and historical memory.

O delavnici
Odkrivali bomo estetiko, eleganco in družbeni kontekst teh plesov ter spoznali, kako so gib, glasba in zgodovina prepleteni v celostno umetnostno izkušnjo.
Ni potrebno plesno predznanje – delavnica je odprta vsem ljubiteljem plesa, glasbe in zgodovine!
17. in 18. december 2025, 18.00–20.30 Osrednja dvorana Pokrajinskega muzeja Koper
Zakaj zgodovinski ples danes?
Obnova in ponovna uprizoritev zgodovinskih plesov danes nista zgolj vračanje v preteklost, temveč način, kako jo razumeti skozi izkušnjo telesa in gibanja. Zgodovinski ples združuje umetnost, znanje in čutnost – v njem se telesna drža, ritem in družbeni odnosi prepletejo v živo obliko kulturne dediščine.
O vodji delavnice
