About the author and her novel debut
Renata Skodnik is the daughter of a miner, a Velenje woman, professor of history and Slovene and master of Science in management. On the occasion of her book debut, she says: "in my work and research, I have always sought a balance between a scientific approach, respect for historical facts, and a sense of the word and intimate personal confession. I combined all this in the novel Velenje goes on , which is a tribute to the Velenje coal mine, the miners and the Valley of Shalez. I believe that during the closure of the Velenje coal mine it is especially important that our mining heritage is not lost. This is a book that rudnik and Velenje do not yet have, but they deserve it.«
The Polyphonic tale of the Valley takes us from the humble beginnings of mining through decades of progress, electrification, technological perfection and automation, to the present day, when the mine is slowly closing and with it one of the most important chapters of our history is shutting down. The contemporary social novel goes beyond the mere story of the mine and opens up a reflection on the life after it and the future of the valley, that is, the story of the uncertainty at the time of the closure of the coal mine and the personal and social transition of the Shalez Valley. At the forefront are the themes of belonging, solidarity and intergenerational transfer of experience, but also the need for a new vision of space, anchored in the values that work in the cave has shaped in people.
In the festive September of Velenje, the Velenje Book Foundation (UVKF) and the Institute for Tourism of the Shalez Valley (ZTSD) invite you to present Renata Skodnik's novel debut Velenje goes on. The head of the foundation and the editor of the book Ivo Stropnik will talk with the author.

O avtorici in njenem romanesknem prvencu
