he kindly invites you to a lecture on two rather similar glacial karst landscapes,
The great gates (1953 m) at the Gorenja Komna and Burren in western Ireland.
The lecture, which will be held on Friday, 10. in April 2026, at 20. hours at Stergulc's House in Bovec were prepared by Dr. Jurij and dr. Uros Kunaver in the course of 10. International Geography nights-Geonight.
For the first time, the lecture will be accompanied by exceptional recordings of lashts with a drone. An evening will be held, which will allow visitors to discover, with the help of aerial and ground shots, the ice and water of millennia transformed into a bare rocky high-mountain karst world, which, although right next to the mountain trail, is also unknown to mountaineers. So-called karst tables and corrosion podiums reveal the secret of the "life" of the karst surface over the past 12,000 years, since the last valley glaciers melted. Similar things can be found in the nearby valley of the Triglav lakes. The lecture is a contribution to a better knowledge of one's own homeland and understanding, valuing and protecting its natural resources. Not only with deep caves and clear karst waters, but also with the diversity and expressiveness of the surface karst forms, the Slovenian Alpine High Mountain karst, along with the classical karst, is rightfully ranked among the world's karst superpowers. A simultaneous visit to the Irish karst Burren will provide an opportunity for comparisons and a broader understanding of the karst phenomenon. The idea of the night of geography-Geonight originated in France (2018). This year's event will be held simultaneously in thirty-one countries of Europe and the world with almost two hundred events, of which Eleven will be held in Slovenia

vljudno vabi na predavanje o dveh precej podobnih ledeniško kraških pokrajinah,
Velikih vratih (1953 m) na Gorenji Komni in Burrenu na zahodnem Irskem.
Predavanje, ki bo v petek, 10. aprila 2026, ob 20. uri v Stergulčevi hiši v Bovcu, sta pripravila dr. Jurij in dr. Uroš Kunaver v okviru 10. mednarodne noči geografije-Geonight.
Predavanje bodo prvič spremljali izjemni posnetki laštov z dronom. Obeta se večer, ki bo obiskovalcem s pomočjo zračnih in talnih posnetkov odkril od ledu in vode tisočletja preoblikovan goli skalnati visokogorski kraški svet, ki je, čeprav tik ob planinski poti, neznan tudi planincem. Takoimenovane kraške mize in korozijske stopničke odkrivajo skrivnost »življenja« kraškega površja v preteklih 12.000 letih, odkar so se stopili zadnji dolinski ledeniki. Podobne stvari srečamo tudi v bližnji Dolini triglavskih jezer. Predavanje je prispevek k boljšemu poznavanju lastne domovine ter razumevanju, vrednotenju in varovanju njenih naravnih bogastev. Ne samo z globokimi jamami in čistimi kraškimi vodami, tudi s pestrostjo in izrazitostjo površinskih kraških oblik se s slovenskim alpskim visokogorskim krasom, skupaj s klasičnim krasom, po pravici uvrščamo med svetovne kraške velesile. Hkratni obisk irskega kraškega Burrena bo priložnost za primerjave in širše razumevanje kraškega fenomena. Zamisel o Noči geografije-Geonight izvira iz Francije (2018).
