A new masterpiece by Danish-Norwegian director Joachim Trier (Oslo, 31. August, the most terrible man in the world). The Film is about two sisters. Nora Borg is an established theatre actress from Oslo, and her younger sister Agnes has chosen family life and care for her son. Although they are very different, they have a strong bond – they grew up alone with their mother after their father, once renowned filmmaker Gustav, left the family years ago. When they reunite with their estranged father after a long time, he offers Nora the lead role in a film he hopes will be his big comeback. When Nora declines the offer, she soon learns that the role has been handed over to a young, ambitious Holl-amoudood celebrity. Suddenly, the sisters have to deal with their complicated relationships with their father – and with an American actress who has fallen right into the center of their complex family dynamics. Agnes explores the family's past more and more, and Nora and Gustav try to reconnect. But the cracks in the foundations of the Borg family go deeper than any of them would dare to admit – and threaten to upset the already fragile balance. Sentimental value is an intimate and moving exploration of family, memories, and the conciliatory power of art.

Čeprav sta zelo različni, ju povezuje močna vez – odraščali sta sami z materjo, potem ko je njun oče, nekoč priznan filmski ustvarjalec Gustav, pred leti zapustil družino. Ko se po dolgem času znova srečata s svojim odtujenim očetom, ta ponudi Nori glavno vlogo v filmu, za katerega upa, da bo njegov veliki povratek. Ko Nora ponudbo zavrne, kmalu izve, da je vlogo predal mladi, ambiciozni hollywoodski zvezdnici. Nenadoma se morata sestri soočiti s svojimi zapletenimi odnosi z očetom – in z ameriško igralko, ki je padla naravnost v središče njihove kompleksne družinske dinamike. Agnes vse bolj raziskuje družinsko preteklost, Nora in Gustav pa poskušata znova vzpostaviti stik.
