Bullfighting has long been a criticized form of the traditional culture of southern Europe, as the controversial spectacle of violence, blood and animal husbandry does not fit into the value system of modern societies. In Spain, however, the cult and tradition of Corrida is still nurtured , and the most famous and daring Toreadors are still adored personalities who perform in front of thrilled crowds. One of these is Andr documents Roca Re / and director Albert Serra dedicates him a central role in an explicit documentary that neither celebrates nor condemns bullfighting. His camera simply follows re ilk's everyday life; the psychological-spectacle aspect of the event, the bullfighter's preparation, the intricate dressing of delicately embroidered kitsch outfit, the verbal adrenaline rush before the confrontation with the bull, the ritualized postures in front of the crowds and the assistant's glorification of the "noble" victory over the Beast, driven to the point of absurdity, are emphasized.
