The guest of the evening will be a local Jure Franko , a participant in the Olympic Games in Sarajevo, and the lecture will be conducted by Dr. Tomaz Pavlin , a former hockey player and lecturer at the Faculty of sports of the University of Ljubljana .
When Pierre de Coubertin proposed to renew the Olympic Games in Paris in 1894, he was not merely considering a new sporting competition. He understood the Olympic Games as a space of values, discipline, courage, perseverance and integration of the world. Two years later, the first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens, and in 1924 there was a division into summer and Winter Olympics.
Slovenians were part of this story very early, both as competitors and as co-creators of the Olympic spirit. A special place is held by the Sarajevo 1984 Winter Olympics, when Slovenian sport left an indelible mark, and the first independent Slovenian performances at the Albertville 1992 Winter Olympics.
The lecture is aimed at the general public and young people who are interested in the sport more broadly, not only as a medal hunt, but as a life experience.
What does it mean to train years for a few minutes of performance?
What does it mean to stand at the start of the Olympics?
How does an athlete face failure?
What does it mean to be an Olympian?
In the age of social networks, athletes are often presented primarily as images of success, while daily effort, doubts, pressure, sacrifices and defeats are relegated to the background. The lecture opens up space for reflection on perseverance, inner motivation and discipline even when there is no applause and when the path to the goal is not dazzling, but thorny.

V času družbenih omrežij so športniki pogosto predstavljeni predvsem kot podobe uspeha, medtem ko so vsakodnevni napor, dvomi, pritiski, odrekanja in porazi potisnjeni v ozadje. Predavanje odpira prostor za razmislek o vztrajnosti, notranji motivaciji in disciplini tudi takrat, ko ni aplavza in, ko pot do cilja ni bleščeča, temveč trnova.
