Directed By Matteo Spiazzi
Bitter comedy
Baptismal staging

Italian director and pedagogue Matteo Spiazzi (1987) graduated from the Nico Pepe Academy of Dramatic Art in Udine, Italy in theater directing, specializing in work with theatrical Masque. He works as a director, Theatre pedagogue, lecturer, producer and organizer of events in Italy and abroad. On the theatrical mask, among other things, he lectured and conducted practical seminars at the University of Verona, the Central University of Moduito, The Art Department of Tartu University, at the Belarusian National Academy of Dramatic Art in Minsk, at the Kiev University of culture, as well as at the DAMU Theater Academy in Prague. He has received several awards and accolades for his directorial work.
The bitter comedy Paradise is set in a home for the elderly in a small Slovenian town and depicts the life of a community of caregivers. It is based on documentary (Memorial) material, therefore it is authentic and does not succumb to sentimentality. It introduces the theme of aging through related themes of exclusion, isolation, loneliness, death, (in)fulfillment of life, and physical and mental health. Paradise, however, does not want to be (only) a documentary testimony, but a modern fairy tale celebrating life – with equal opportunities for all. The stories are built in a mosaic way from memories that evoke regrets, fears, melancholy in the elderly, and in the viewers they arouse the bitter laughter of recognition and form into a sensitive celebration of that moment when we see the importance in the Daily drift of often underestimated values, as he discusses the value of life from the only authoritative position – at the end of the timeline, near death. From this position, through the delicate prism of bioethics, it also touches on the individual's right to end suffering and pain.
Paradise is a predominantly non-verbal performance, it is based on a mask game in the manner of Spiazzi's specialization – commedie dell'arte. The commedie dell'arte style with the use of full masks is characterized by comicality, this time encrusted with a theme of bitter aftertaste. Spiazzi has already dealt with the topic of aging: in Minsk , Belarus, he designed the author's Project Family album, where three family generations are stuck in a small apartment of an elderly grandmother and mother; and with the students of the game in Kiev, he visited a nursing home, where they collected Memorial stories of the caretakers and created the Belvedere Boarding House show . In Paradise, he wants to draw attention to the uncontrolled outflow of self-evident Time (Life), which we spend quite low-quality in everyday service to capital, and approach worthy things instantly, impatiently, scattered. When was the last time we sat down in a comfortable chair and looked out the window without saying a word?
A modern fairy tale that celebrates life-with equal opportunities for everyone.

Grenka komedija
Krstna uprizoritev
