Round table "architectural photography" Okrogla miza »Arhitekturna fotografija«

culture lecture forum exhibition
76%

A round table on the topic of architectural photography organized by the Society of architects of Ljubljana will be held as an accompanying program of the exhibition neighborhood affinities/Le Affinit/di confine / Border Affinities. The discussion arises from the current situation of architectural photography, which today is torn between documentation of built architecture, digital visualizations and the lack of systematic archiving of photographic funds.
The event will raise questions about what is the fundamental task of architectural photography: is it primarily a representation, interpretation or critical reflection of space? What role does photography play in establishing the canon of modern architecture and how does it affect its historical understanding? Photography of architecture gives visibility to current spatial practices and gives them legitimacy, while at the same time it can create partial or even misleading images of individual periods through the selection of frame, light and context.
The discussion will also address the issues of authorship, the relationship between the architect and the photographer, the influence of media and social networks on the production of images, and the issue of long-term storage and accessibility of architectural photography archives. Particular emphasis will be placed on the responsibility of institutions and professional platforms in establishing systematic collections that will enable future research and critical reading of the space.
