Poppies also got their place in modern Slovenian literature, in the story of the same name in the book proximity on the recipe of Helena Shuklja. The writer got her inspiration from the painting by Matej Sternen, which will be especially highlighted in the exhibition of paintings with a still life motif poppies from the collection of the National Gallery.
In addition to the lesser-known artwork of Sternen's private collection, the discoveries will be enriched by the writer's presentation of the story.

Svoje mesto so maki dobili tudi v sodobni slovenski literaturi, v istoimenski zgodbi v knjigi Bližina na recept Helene Šuklje. Pisateljica je navdih zanjo dobila ob sliki Mateja Sternena, ki bo posebej izpostavljena umetnina na razstavi slik s tihožitnim motivom makov iz zbirke Narodne galerije.
Odstiranja bodo poleg manj znane Sternenove umetnine iz zasebne zbirke obogatena s pisateljičino predstavitvijo zgodbe.
