Exhibition at the Museum of Santa Chiara, organized by the municipality of Gorizia in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Gorizia and with the contribution of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Exhibition " from Aquileia to Gorizia. Treasure of the archdiocese " will be held at the Museum of Santa Chiara (Corso Verdi 18/A) in Gorizia. The exhibition, organized by the municipality of Gorizia in cooperation with the Archdiocese of Gorizia and with the contribution of the region of Friuli - Venezia Giulia, will feature more than 200 exhibits, among which are valuable and ancient objects of sacred art from the treasury of the Patriarchate of Aquileia (an old institution abolished in 1751 by Pope Benedict//, from which the dioceses of Gorizia and Udine subsequently emerged), liturgical vestments, extremely rare medieval antiphonaries, paintings, large prints, musical instruments, manuscripts of great historical importance and rare books. The most important cultural institutions from Gorizia and the FJK region will also participate in the exhibition with their works.
The coordinated display of these diverse and valuable materials will briefly outline the centuries-old path of the Patriarchate of Aquileia, an ecclesiastical Principality founded in 1077 by Emperor Henry IV. with the granting of secular authority as well. Particular attention will be paid to his key Metropolitan Authority, which stretched to the west, north and East, and was enriched by a large number of suffragan dioceses, even very distant ones (for example, the Diocese of Como was a suffragan Diocese of Gorizia until 1789, that is, well after the abolition of the Patriarchate itself).
The events after the Venetian conquest of Friuli in 1420, which deprived the Patriarchate of secular power, and the transition of Gorizia and its county to the Habsburgs in 1500 will be especially presented.
"The narrative-evocative-conceptual path of the exhibition will be conceived as a kind of diptych. The first part will present the Christian beginnings of Aquileia, from where the Gospel spread towards the Danube, Illyricum and Istria; then the medieval and modern development of the Patriarchal Church, from the defense of the three chapters and the alliance with the Lombards, to the Carolingian era and the peaceful Christianization of the Slovenes, until it became the largest and most ethnically diverse diocese in Europe. The second part will be devoted to the special aspects of the piety of the Gorizia Church in the 16th century.–18. in the XIX century, with specific features of Austrian piety – from the 'discipline' of religious life by the new orders (Jesuits, Capuchins, Ursulines, mercies, Carmelites), to the development of sacred art and the activities of great preachers in Italian, Friulian and Slovenian. In this context, the creation of the Archdiocese of Gorizia will also be shown as the authentic heiress of the abolished Patriarchal Church, which, at least until the first World War – through many trials – maintained a balanced regime of uninterrupted peace in a space of diverse linguistic and national character, " says the curator of the exhibition, Alessio Persic of the Cattolica university in Milan.
Special attention will be paid to didactic aspects even with the use of the most modern computer technologies. The director of the exhibition is Marino De Grassi .
The exhibition will be open from Friday, 21. June, to 28. September , from Wednesday to Sunday , from 10. to 13. hours and from 17. to 23. hours . The entrance fee is five euros .

Razstava »Od Ogleja do Gorice. Zaklad nadškofije« bo potekala v Muzeju Santa Chiara (Corso Verdi 18/A) v Gorici.
