The author of the witty and melancholic story about a cow barking at the Moon (Mouse, 2015) is the storyteller, librarian and youth writer Ida Mlakar Blackc. Since 1995 she has been employed at the Ljubljana City Library in the field of bibliopedagogy, since 2021 she has been retired. In 2016, she was awarded the prize of the Slovenian section of IBB light for the promoter of Youth Literature and reading. He also writes articles for parenting magazines , Cicido and Ciciban . In her stories for children and young people, she writes about interpersonal relationships and emotion. Her writing is a lyrical, subtle narrative, and this is also why her work has been repeatedly awarded. The picture book about the cow that barked at the Moon received the Kristina Brenkova prize for the original Slovenian Picture Book 2016, the Golden Pear sign 2016, and was included in the White Crow Collection, a selection of two hundred best children's and youth books from around the world, which is prepared annually by the International Youth Library.
The play about a cow barking at the Moon tells The Story of a cow named Mrvica and a horse named Van den Hi, who ran away from their last visit to the vet — she from the farm where she gave milk and he from the circus where he was a circus star. They wanted to send them for "examination" because they were old and served, and because they could no longer carry out their duties. But a wacky cow and a cool horse take a path under their hooves and hooves and go out into the world, where they breathe with full lungs and find that life even in old age can be beautiful, wild and happy.
In love with life,
endless sparking in the head,
their hearts are bursting with happiness,
he's totally throwing them.
"The story of Ida Mlakar, which was awarded the best picture book by Kristina Brenkova, addressed me, with its unusual title and the repulsive illustrations by Peter Shkerl, already on the bookshelves. It was one of the first books I carefully picked up for my, then barely a year old, firstborn. My daughter, who very quickly began to speak, after the first reading asked me questions: What does it mean under the knife? ("Dad, you're old too, will you have to go under the knife?") What does it mean that a cow does not give milk and why? And why does he have to go to the sea ... then I took a breath, caught my breath and began to look for answers, ways to tell such a small child about such great things in life. I realized that it was this book that groundbreaking opened the door for me to the world of responsible parenting, to a world where clap and uaaau replace responsible conversation with my child. In the staging, therefore, we will play with the principle of error, failure, failure, strangeness. Mistakes and failed attempts are just part of the path you have to go if you want to succeed.«

In zakaj mora it na morje …
