In NUK, at the Department of protection and restoration, we had a signed photograph of the famous photographer Kristjan Pajer (1839-1895) cleaned and protected, which is one of the more valuable photographs in our library's Local History Collection. This is a three-part panoramic shot of the logac railway station with Dolenja Vas and Cobce in the background. The image was allegedly made in 1856 and is considered the oldest known photograph of Logatec.
Since this is a rare opportunity to listen to the story of the origin and life of photographs and photographers with photographs and a comprehensive and in-depth explanation of the circumstances, we invite you to a lecture by Dr. Dragan Christmas entitled
The oldest photographs of Logatec and their authors: professional photographer Ippolito Lafranchini from Vienna and Carniolan Kristijan Pajer, Travel Photographer of three continents
About the Italian photographer Ippolito (also Hippolit and H Animppolit) Lafranchini, who has been working since the Fifties of the 19th century. centuries in Venice, Verona and Vienna, in the Nineties also in Ptuj and Zagreb, a lot of biographical data has been collected so far, but only a handful of photographs have been published (e.g. Metternich's Palace in Vienna, the Church of sv. Mark and the bridge of Sighs in Venice). At the end of January 2024 Dr. Dragan Christmas discovered that it was he who in 1856 made an album with ten photographs the size of veliki foliant (Borovnica viaduct, other viaducts near Borovnica, Stampet bridge, usek near Logatec), commissioned by the senior engineer Johann Arcari from Ljubljana, whose company built the railway section from sad mountain to Logatec from 1851 to 1856.
Born in Kranj, the Travel Photographer Kristijan Pajer (1839-1895), German Christian Paier, spent most of his life in the Middle East. He was first a teacher in Styria and Gorenjska, and in 1861 he had already opened his first studio in Alexandria. He also worked in Jerusalem and Cairo. In 1864, on his way home, he stopped in Trieste for the sale of 40 photographs under the titles Palestine, Asia Minor and Egypt. He gave Emperor Franz Joseph two albums, in 1864 the album Views from the Promised Land, and in 1888 the album Views from the Promised Land – cliffs in front of Jaffa. He had a studio in Ljubljana from 1877 to 1879, and finally returned home from Jutrov in 1886. In 1868, during a short visit to his native Kranj, he recorded veduta on four cards. Photographs of the centre of Ljubljana (e.g. the hospital bridge, the Franciscan church), Ribnica, St. Rupert, Sezana, Matavun pri Divaci and Logatec have also survived.

Najstarejši fotografiji Logatca in njuna avtorja: poklicni fotograf Ippolito Lafranchini z Dunaja in Kranjčan Kristijan Pajer, popotni fotograf treh celin
Marka in Most vzdihljajev v Benetkah). Konec januarja 2024 dr.
Špitalski most, Frančiškanska cerkev), Ribnice, Šentruperta, Sežane, Matavuna pri Divači in Logatca.
