Eva Leonie Fegers , based in Vienna and the Bavarian countryside, is passionate about sounds and stories.
Born in 1987 in Mönchengladbach, Germany, Eva Leonie Fegers discovered her passion for music at an early age, beginning recorder lessons at just five years old. She studied recorder and music education under Dorothee Oberlinger at the Mozarteum Salzburg, Bart Coen and Bart Spanhove at the LUCA School of Arts in Leuven, and Carsten Eckert at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Additionally, she pursued studies in classical singing with Otto Rastbichler, traverso with Gertraud Wimmer and early music, completing all her degrees with distinction.
Eva Leonie Fegers has won numerous awards, including first prize at the Moeck/SRP Solo Recorder Playing Competition in 2011 and third prize, along with a Förderpreis, at the 15th International Music Competition OSAKA. She has received support from institutions such as the Nordrheinwestfälische Sparkassen, the Senioren-Union NRW, and the Manfred Vetter-Stiftung, as well as the Zonta Musikpreis. She is also a member of the Austrian broadcaster Ö1’s young talent scheme.
An accomplished chamber musician, Eva Leonie Fegers is active in several early and contemporary music ensembles. She is a member and sought-after guest of various groups specializing in early, contemporary, improvised, pop music, and sound performance, including her consort opia, Duo F/F, Meta & Magnet, and WH. In 2023, opia released their CD as you like it. She has also collaborated with ensembles such as the Hofkapelle München, Ensemble 1700, La Folia Barockorchester, Synchron Stage Orchestra, and the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich.
Eva Leonie Fegers has appeared at numerous prestigious festivals, including the Porto Frank Fest (Ukraine), Grafenegg Festival, Wien Modern, AnOther Festival, Innsbrucker Festwochen Alter Musik (Austria), the Festival for Early Music Knechtsteden, Shakespeare Festival Neuss, Zamus Festival, the Bach-Festival Arnstadt (Germany), and the Royal Greenwich International Early Music Festival (UK). She has performed live on German and Austrian radio stations, including Bayerischer Rundfunk and Ö1.
She has participated in masterclasses with renowned musicians such as Walter van Hauwe, Han Tol, Paul Leenhouts, Lorenzo Cavasanti, Kees Boeke, Matthias Weilenmann, Reinhard Goebel, and Trevor Pinnock.
Since the winter semester of 2022/23, Eva Leonie Fegers has been teaching recorder and pedagogy at the University of Music Burgenland.
