The competition is for everyone who likes to create-in manga style or other styles and techniques. We invite you to create your own comic book story or introduce your favorite or completely your own comic book hero. A wide variety of artistic expressive solutions are welcome.
Why did we choose comics as the theme of the contest this year? The comic is a unique mix of literature and fine art. Its strength lies in the fact that it tells the story with a sequence of frames that create a feeling of movement and time. Comics enable fast and dynamic reading, but also enhance visual literacy, as we also interpret images, symbols and composition when we read them.
Japanese comics, which are read from right to left, have a specific drawing style and are different from American and European ones. No matter which style you prefer, it is important to bring something just yours, unique to your art product. Remember: you don't have to limit yourself to just a comic book – you can also create a comic book or fantasy hero or find some other connection to the comic book.
If you are a fan of comics, you certainly know many great modern creators. However, let us quickly touch on the past and recall that comics were paved the way in Slovenia by the artist Hinko Smrekar, who created the prototype of the Slovenian comic strip Crnovojnik in 1919 . The comic came to life in our country to the fullest with the works of Miki muster in the fifties 20. century-22. november 2025 was therefore at 100. the anniversary of the birth of Miki muster declared National Comics day.
Inspiration for creation, however, awaits you not only in comics. You can also look for him in the gallery's permanent collection, where you can find depictions of a large number of mythological and other heroes – with their superpowers, they can help you create your hero!
When and where do you send your product?
You can send a product of any format up to and including 15. in May 2026 at the address National Gallery, Puharjeva 9, 1000 Ljubljana, attribution: for the art competition my strip, my style .
Do not forget about the basic information: name and surname, address, e-mail address and age. If you made the product within the school or under professional guidance, please write the class, the name of the school, the tutor and his contact details.
We recommend that you write in the title or accompanying note what kind of story or depiction it is, so that the content is easier to understand.
Only art products received in physical form can participate in the selection for awards and exhibition. All products will be returned after the exhibition.
The expert committee will select the best works that will be awarded and exhibited. The opening of the exhibition will be 20. in June 2026 at the National Gallery, on summer Museum night.

Do you need advice from an art educator or just a little encouragement?
Come for free drawing and socializing in the entrance lobby of the National Gallery for young people 12+ 8. February 2026, to 10. to 18. hours. You will be able to create, test Copic markers, meet interesting heroes of the gallery permanent collection ... you will also get ideas and drawing tips for the (manga) art contest!

Natečaj je namenjen vsem, ki radi ustvarjate - v stilu mange ali drugih slogih in tehnikah. Vabimo te, da ustvariš svojo stripovsko zgodbo ali predstaviš svojega najljubšega oziroma povsem svojega stripovskega junaka. Dobrodošle so najrazličnejše likovno izrazne rešitve.
Zakaj smo letos za temo natečaja izbrali prav strip? Strip je edinstvena mešanica literature in likovne umetnosti. Njegova moč je v tem, da zgodbo pripoveduje z zaporedjem sličic, ki ustvarijo občutek premikanja in časa. Stripi omogočajo hitro in dinamično branje, hkrati pa krepijo tudi vizualno pismenost, saj ob branju interpretiramo tudi slike, simbole in kompozicijo.
Japonski stripi, ki se berejo od desne proti levi, imajo specifičen slog risanja in se razlikujejo od ameriških in evropskih. Ne glede na to, kateri slog ti je ljubši, pa je pomembno, da v svoj likovni izdelek vneseš nekaj samo tvojega, edinstvenega. Ne pozabi: ni se treba omejiti samo na strip – ustvariš lahko tudi stripovskega ali fantazijskega junaka ali poiščeš kakšno drugo povezavo s stripom.
Če si ljubitelj stripov, gotovo poznaš številne odlične sodobne ustvarjalce. Vseeno pa naj se na hitro dotaknemo še preteklosti in spomnimo, da je stripu na Slovenskem utrl pot umetnik Hinko Smrekar, ki je prototip slovenskega stripa Črnovojnik ustvaril leta 1919 . Strip je pri nas v polnosti zaživel z deli Mikija Mustra v petdesetih letih 20. stoletja – 22. november 2025 je bil zato na 100. obletnico rojstva Mikija Mustra razglašen za Nacionalni dan stripa.
Navdih za ustvarjanje pa te ne čaka samo v stripih. Lahko ga poiščeš tudi v galerijski stalni zbirki, kjer najdeš upodobitve velikega števila mitoloških in drugih junakov – s svojimi supermočmi so ti lahko v pomoč pri kreiranju svojega junaka!
Do kdaj in kam pošlješ svoj izdelek?
Izdelek poljubnega formata lahko pošlješ do vključno 15. maja 2026 na naslov Narodna galerija, Puharjeva 9, 1000 Ljubljana, pripis: za likovni natečaj Moj strip, moj slog .
Ne pozabi na osnovne podatke: ime in priimek, naslov, e-naslov in starost. Če si izdelek naredil v okviru šole oziroma pod strokovnim vodstvom, dopiši še razred, ime šole, mentorja in njegove kontaktne podatke.
Priporočamo, da v naslovu ali spremljevalnem zapisu napišeš, za kakšno zgodbo oziroma upodobitev gre, da bo vsebina lažje razumljiva.
V izbor za nagrade in razstavo lahko sodelujejo le likovni izdelki, prejeti v fizični obliki. Vse izdelke bomo po razstavi vrnili.
Strokovna komisija bo izbrala najboljša dela, ki bodo nagrajena in razstavljena. Odprtje razstave bo 20. junija 2026 v Narodni galeriji, na Poletno muzejsko noč.
