Tuesday, 9. 6. 2026, within the framework of the film View cycle at 18.00, we invite you to the Garden of the plant - the space of art and participation, to a lecture by Marina Gumzi on the reconstruction of the story with the help of photographs on the example of the film Fiume o morte!.
Film Fiume o morte!, which tells about an unusual political episode in the history of Rijeka from 1919, when the place for a good year was taken by the notorious poet and proto-fascist Gabriele D'annunzio, received the award for Best European documentary in February of this year. The Film was produced a good decade, and the Slovenian studio rhinos joined it already at the stage of development. An enthusiastic film crew and an international group of producers sought the final form of the project under the visionary guidance of director Igor Bezinovi 6 in a period when the world was marked, among other things, by ideological hyperpolarization, the disintegration of institutions and profound technological changes. The Film premiered a few days after the inauguration of the current US president, at which the richest Earthling performed a gesture that strongly resembled a fascist salute. From a formalistically incomprehensible project, resisted by the largest film festivals before its premiere, after a good year of distribution in all continents of the world, Fiume o morte! he went down in the history of cinema as one of the most current and lucid reflections of our time. The Slovenian co-producer of the film will highlight the process of work - the long-distance film run, the dynamics within the international team and the challenges of launching an unconventional film into the world.
The lecture will be hosted by Dr. Maja Pan.

it is a cycle of lectures that aims to bring the art of cinema closer to a wider audience through an in-depth treatment of various theoretical and critical approaches. In this year's cycle, we will explore how the disintegration of the filmstrip opens up new forms of images, as well as counter - how it is possible to reconstruct the story with the help of images. We will pay special attention to the cinematic experience of watching a movie. We will discuss the connections between comics and film as self-made Arts and explore the role of architecture in film. We will also be interested in the phenomenon of science fiction series and their messages over decades of television, as well as the real impact of artificial intelligence on filmmaking. We will look into the images of women on the film screen and reveal patriarchal patterns in film stories, while paying tribute to the Palestinian political film movement again and reflecting on how film shapes our ways of seeing and understanding the world
The film View cycle is a continuation of the film View cycle (2025), the cycle film genres through social criticism (2023, 2024), where we focused our attention on rethinking the connections between film genres and social phenomena, the Cycle Theory of film (2022), where we learned how viewers can apply various theoretical views to their own viewing of all kinds of films, and the cycle history of film (2021) through which we learned the basics of film history.
Zagnana filmska ekipa in mednarodna skupina producentov so končno obliko projekta pod vizionarskim vodstvom režiserja Igorja Bezinovića iskali v obdobju, ko so svet med drugim zaznamovale ideološka hiperpolarizacija, razkroj institucij in globoke tehnološke spremembe.
Pogovor ob predavanju bo vodila dr. Maja Pan.
