Katja Oblak (1975) is one of those young sculptors who found their position in the principle of classical sculptural creation. Her works are characterized by a subtle sensitivity in the choice of expressive materials, as well as consideration of corporeality (object – figure), spatial construction, which she tries to upgrade with videos, sound and movement (directly performed performance or on video).
She designed this exhibition entitled space of new memory for the lapidary. With it, he continues his autobiographical reflection on the role, position, state and in general the response of his own body to what is happening in the environment. We know that it was the realization that every movement of the body expressed very strongly, albeit silently, that led to the emergence and development of creative dance. Katya Oblak, as a dancer of mainly Japanese buta, found parallels with sculpture right in the dance, as if her body during the dance – movement in space is already a sculptural “material”in itself.
The artist records the narrative of the moment of her own life with the help of selected sequences of movement or state of her own body or the body of another, which she translates into a sculptural form through the imprint of a living body. In this way, he brings the sequence of the whole movement to the level of metaphor, which prompts the viewer to fill the voids of the statue into a perfect bodily form with the power of his own imagination. She designed her narrative in four sections and thereby adapted them to the spatial conditions of the exhibition grounds. She called them the axis of self , duality , dancing in nature and meeting .
