Joze GORJUP (1907-1932, kostanjevica na Krki), painter, graphic artist and sculptor, is a local resident. He studied in Zagreb and Florence. In 1930 he returned to his native Kostanjevica. He is a representative of Slovenian expressionism and the new reality. His works show the influence of teachers and the great names of European modernism. He died young, only 25 years old. In his last works-especially in the painting of the presbytery of the Church of St. Nicholas on the island-he indicated the direction of personal stylistic expression. In addition to the biblical subject matter, which is replaced by secular motifs after his studies in Florence, his subjects include Arcadian landscapes, bathing suits, portraits, the motif of a painter's studio and actors. His collection numbers over 600 works. In the current permanent exhibition, since 1992, he is presented with 10 oil paintings, along with works by sculptor France Gorshet.
