Janez Boljka Janez Boljka

culture exhibition

JANEZ BOLJKA (1931, Subotica – 2013, Ljubljana) studied sculpture at the Ljubljana Academy. He lived and worked in Ljubljana. He is an important representative of Slovenian surrealist sculpture. Early works were made in iron, while later works were cast in bronze. Assembly technology gives his creations a special picturesqueness and vividness. Thus, the motives of his depictions, whether they are animals, Ribnik – the eternal traveler or Ivan Cankar, can be observed from two levels: as a whole or as a set of individual components, which are usually already used objects. The sculptor's creative act, on the other hand, is one that gives a homogeneous message of all the elements. The exhibition of 92 plastics, paintings and prints has been on display since 1994.
