What does analog filmstrip look like and what are its features? How to make a movie without using a camera and how to play it on a 16 mm projector?
The workshop on experimenting with 16 mm film tape and making phytograms will take place from Friday to Sunday for three hours a day. She will be led by the visual artist Neza Knez , who is participating in the V-F-Entertainment Ljubljana Festival with the solo exhibition analog diffraction #1 in the SCCA Project Room, where she will present her own work using the procedures that are the subject of the workshop.
WORKSHOP COURSE
Friday, 5. 5. 2023, 17.00–20.00
Introductory presentation of the history of experimental film and acquaintance with selected works of authors who create with 16-mm film. This is followed by an acquaintance with the use and work with the projector and the presentation of various chemical and mechanical processes that allow the creation of a moving image: developing and analog dubbing, double exposure (with filming or in the darkroom), experimentation and Intervention directly on the tape in different stages (before developing in the darkroom and when the tape is already developed).
Saturday, Sunday, 6.–7. 5. 2023, 13.00–16.00
Learning about the process of making phytograms. A phytogram is a technique where images, colors and textures are created on photographic paper or film tape without chemicals, simply by means of a chemical reaction upon contact with plants.
The first part (Saturday) will take place outdoors, with the collection of various natural materials. This is followed by work in the phytogram technique, where we will experiment with the collected materials, learn how to develop film and photo paper. In the second part (Sunday), we will manually intervene on the developed filmstrip, glue it and project the films, and learn how to properly insert the film into the projector.
The participants will each produce two phytograms on a photo paper and three film sequences (loops), which will be shown at a public screening in the chufar cinema classroom on Friday, 12. 5. at 17. uri .
Registration
The workshop is intended for high school girls, students and seniors. The number of places is limited to 8 participants. The registration fee is EUR 20 per person and includes photo and film material and free admission to all festival screenings.

Neza Knez (1990) Graduated and received her master's degree in sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts and design (ALUO) in Ljubljana. She was educated at the International Academy of music in Zagreb, where she also attended the school of documentary and experimental film RESTART. She is the winner of some of the most prominent awards: the award (2012) and the award (2014) for outstanding academic achievements at the Aluo in Ljubljana, the award for an innovative approach to artistic graphics "Golden press" (2015), the Presern award (University of Ljubljana) for outstanding academic achievements (2015), and for her master's thesis she received the highest award with the distinction Summa Cum Laude (2017). In 2017, she participated in the Biennale of youth in Tirana. In 2018, she received an Oho group award and was on a two-month artist residency at the premises of residence Music Unlimited in NE Animatork. In 2021, she was the recipient of the MK working scholarship. She presented herself at a series of Solo and group exhibitions, screenings and performances. He lives between Ljubljana and Zagreb. The workshop is part of the International Festival of experimental audiovisual practices V-F-Entertainment Ljubljana , which is taking place this year during 11. and 14. May at the Slovenian Cinematheque.

Kako je videti analogni filmski trak in kakšne so njegove lastnosti? Kako narediti film brez uporabe kamere in kako ga predvajati na 16-mm projektorju?
Delavnica eksperimentiranja s 16-mm filmskim trakom in izdelovanja fitogramov bo potekala od petka do nedelje po tri ure na dan. Vodila jo bo vizualna umetnica Neža Knez , ki na festivalu V-F-X Ljubljana sodeluje s samostojno razstavo Analogne difrakcije #1 v Projektni sobi SCCA, kjer bo predstavila lastno delo z uporabo postopkov, ki so predmet delavnice.
POTEK DELAVNICE
Petek, 5. 5. 2023, 17.00–20.00
Uvodna predstavitev zgodovine eksperimentalnega filma in seznanjanje z izbranimi deli avtoric_jev, ki ustvarjajo s 16-mm filmom. Sledi spoznavanje uporabe in dela s projektorjem ter predstavitev različnih kemičnih in mehanskih postopkov, ki omogočajo nastanek gibljive podobe: razvijanje in analogno presnemavanje, dvojna ekspozicija (s snemanjem ali v temnici), eksperimentiranje in interveniranje neposredno na trak v različnih fazah (pred razvijanjem v temnici in ko je trak že razvit).
Sobota, nedelja, 6.–7. 5. 2023, 13.00–16.00
Spoznavanje postopka izdelovanja fitogramov. Fitogram je tehnika, kjer podobe, barve in teksture na fotografskem papirju ali filmskem traku ustvarimo brez kemikalij, zgolj s pomočjo kemijske reakcije ob stiku z rastlinami.
Prvi del (sobota) bo potekal na prostem, z nabiranjem različnih naravnih materialov. Sledi delo v tehniki fitogram, kjer bomo eksperimentirale_i z nabranimi materiali, se učile_i razvijati film in fotopapir. V drugem delu (nedelja) bomo na razviti filmski trak ročno intervenirale_i, ga zlepile_i in projicirale_i filme ter se učile_i, kako pravilno vstaviti film v projektor.
Udeleženke_ci bodo izdelali vsak po dva fitograma na fotopapirju in tri filmske sekvence (zanke), ki bodo predvajani na javni projekciji v kinotečni učilnici Čufarjeva v petek, 12. 5. ob 17. uri .
PRIJAVA
Delavnica je namenjena srednješolkam_cem, študentkam_om in starejšim. Število mest je omejeno na 8 udeleženk_cev. Kotizacija znaša 20 EUR na osebo in vključuje foto in filmski material ter prost vstop na vse festivalske projekcije.

Neža Knez (1990) je diplomirala in magistrirala iz kiparstva na Akademiji za likovno umetnost in oblikovanje (ALUO) v Ljubljani. Izobraževala se je na mednarodni WHW Akademiji v Zagrebu, kjer se je udeležila tudi šole dokumentarnega in eksperimentalnega filma RESTART. Je dobitnica nekaterih vidnejših nagrad: priznanje (2012) in nagrada (2014) za izjemne študijske dosežke na ALUO v Ljubljani, nagrada za inovativni pristop k umetniški grafiki »zlata preša« (2015), Prešernova nagrada (Univerza v Ljubljani) za izjemne študijske dosežke (2015), za svojo magistrsko nalogo pa je prejela najvišje priznanje z odliko Summa Cum Laude (2017). V letu 2017 je sodelovala na Bienalu mladih v Tirani. Leta 2018 je prejela nagrado skupine OHO in bila na dvomesečni umetniški rezidenci v prostorih Residency Unlimited v New Yorku. V letu 2021 je bila prejemnica delovne štipendije MK. Predstavila se je na vrsti samostojnih in skupinskih razstav, projekcij in performansov. Živi med Ljubljano in Zagrebom. (Foto: Sanja Bistričić)
Delavnica je del Mednarodnega festivala eksperimentalnih avdiovizualnih praks V-F-X Ljubljana , ki letos poteka med 11. in 14. majem v Slovenski kinoteki.
