In January, the hikers set off in the company of the outstanding photojournalist Arnet Hodalic , and in February they went down from the spring to the mouth of ‘soca – the bright daughter of the mountains’ under the leadership of ROK Rozman , a kayaker, biologist and tireless fighter for Rivers. In March, we left the trekkers to the designers of the project, the ANIMALK2SPIRIT, who will take us in Word and image along an 80-kilometer-long walkway between Aquileia and Sveta Gora named "Iter Goritiense or .gorizian camino or Cammino goriziano" , which is already recognizable among hikers as the GORIZIAN CAMINO.
"The mountain camino has everything that large Caminos have, but at a relatively short distance."Nace Novak
Andrea Bellavite , theologian, writer, traveller and director of the Socoba Foundation and basilica in Aquileia, and Nace Novak , traveller, journalist and project manager at the Franciscan Monastery of Sveta Gora will be with us at the last meeting. Passionate hikers, together with Bogdan Knaus , guardsman of the Franciscan Monastery of Sveta Gora, designed an 80 km long pilgrimage route , which arose from the desire to connect two important places: Aquileia, known for its historically important basilica, erected according to the Edict of Constantine, and Holy Mountain . The journey begins in Aquileia and San Canzian d'isonzo and then continues along the Isonzo River, through the Sagrada and the Karst where it tells the history of the first and Second World Wars and the scars left by the recent fires. Through the area of the future European capital of culture, the pilgrimage route ends with an ascent to the Holy Mountain.
"The essence of the project lies in walking together in diversity to achieve the highest beauty."Andrea Bellavite
The main goal of the project is the arrangement of a footpath from Aquileia to Sveta Gora, which will allow hikers from near and far to get to know the cross-border mountain area. As part of the project, the renovation and opening of accommodation facilities on Sveta Gora were carried out, and the plans include the organization of excursions for groups, training of young guides, the organization of international cross-border conferences and other cultural events.
"Today we want our hiking and pilgrimage routes to help create a humanism of dialogue and meeting, especially those who think differently and feel differently, which will mean the future of our places and also of our part of the Pearl of Europe."Bogdan Knavs
The Lead partner of the project is the Franciscan Monastery of Sveta Gora , and the project partner is the Socoba Foundation, which manages the Aquileia Basilica. "The aim of the project is to attract as many people as possible to the territory, especially young people from Italy, Slovenia and Austria, while taking advantage of the Jubilee year 2025, which, thanks to its rich cultural heritage , will attract many travelers and pilgrims from all over Europe to the area," said Mattia Vecchi, Project Manager at the Socoba Foundation at the April presentation of the project.
WALK2SPIRIT the project, which is funded by the Fund for the spf – SPF GO! 2025 the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia 2021-2027 programme is dedicated to projects within the European capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica-Gorica and is managed by the European Association for territorial cooperation (EGTC GO), which finances projects of smaller value or shorter duration through special calls.
Nace Novak
