Frederick is not an ordinary rat, one of the many that reside in the Ljubljana Castle, but is a true gentleman and Castle legend. He has lived in the castle for hundreds of years, knows all the secret passages and dungeons, has seen everything that happened in the castle. He is called Frederick the first because he is the first in everything. He was on the front line when Ljubljana was attacked by the Turks. When the castle was occupied by the French in Napoleonic times, he was the first to learn how to bake French croissants; it is said that the first also kissed in French. He met all the prisoners who were imprisoned in the dungeons of the castle, and also helped some to the "stinking" freedom.
The puppet show, based on the stories written in the picture book Friderik, the castle rat, will take the children to the mysterious world of the Ljubljana Castle. The best guide to the Castle, The Rat Frederick, who has been living in the castle since it has been standing on the Castle Hill, will present the history of the castle and the city, important events that have happened and important personalities that are related to the history of the castle. And all this in a playful and fun way of table puppet theater.

Friderik ni običajna podgana, ena od mnogih, ki prebivajo na Ljubljanskem gradu, ampak je pravi gospod in grajska legenda. Na gradu živi že stotine let, pozna vse skrivne prehode in ječe, videl je vse, kar se je na gradu dogajalo. Kličejo ga Friderik Prvi, ker je pri vsem prvi. Bil je na prvi bojni črti, ko so Ljubljano napadli Turki. Ko so v Napoleonovih časih grad zasedli Francozi, se je prvi naučil peči francoske rogljičke; govori se, da se je prvi tudi poljubljal po francosko. Spoznal je vse zapornike, ki so bili zaprti v grajskih ječah, in nekaterim tudi pomagal na »smrdljivo« svobodo.
Lutkovna predstava, nastala po prigodah, zapisanih v slikanici Friderik, grajska podgana, bo otroke popeljala v skrivnostni svet Ljubljanskega gradu. Najboljši grajski vodnik, podgana Friderik, ki na gradu prebiva, že odkar ta stoji na Grajskem griču, bo predstavil zgodovino gradu in mesta, pomembne dogodke, ki so se pripetili, in pomembne osebnosti, ki so povezane z zgodovino gradu. In vse to na igriv in zabaven način namiznega lutkovnega gledališča.
