Podrekar drew political satires and caricatures for the newspapers day and Morning simultaneously with Maxim Gaspari, for the newspaper Kurent together with Hink Smrekar and Fran Tratnik, and was also an illustrator of children's magazines kindergarten and Zvonek .
After 1922, he devoted himself exclusively to book illustration, starting with the penitent Wolf of Franz Xavier Meshko.
He is known to the general public mainly for his illustrations for the fairy tale Mishkolin by Josip Ribicic and for the books by Fran Milcinski scout Peter , Golden Pear and Butalci .

Podrekar je risal politične satire in karikature za časopisa Dan in Jutro sočasno z Maksimom Gasparijem, za časopis Kurent skupaj s Hinkom Smrekarjem in Franom Tratnikom, ves čas pa je bil tudi ilustrator otroških revij Vrtec in Zvonček .
Po letu 1922 se je posvetil izključno knjižni ilustraciji, začenši z Volkom Spokornikom Franca Ksaverja Meška.
Širši javnosti je poznan predvsem po ilustracijah za pravljico Miškolin Josipa Ribičiča in za knjige Frana Milčinskega Skavt Peter , Zlata hruška in Butalci .
