With the Venetian Grand Prix of the jury, a story about coincidences and fate unfolds, through which director Samuel Maoz outlines all the absurdity of the military orientation of today's Israel.
Spouses Michael and Dafna are unexpectedly visited one day by representatives of the military. They are informed that their son Jonathan has fallen while performing military duty. After the initial shock, Michael begins to be annoyed by overly zealous grieving relatives and overly friendly military bureaucrats who give support to the spouses. While Michael's wife gives in to a stupor, he slowly slides into a whirlwind of anger, which leads him to an unfathomable turn of life, on a par with his son's surreal experience in the Israeli army.
"Einstein said that chance is God's way of staying anonymous. Foxtrot is the dance of a man with his own destiny. It is a philosophical parable that tries to break a vague concept called ‘Destiny’with the story of father and son. They are far from each other, but despite the distance and complete separation between them, they change the fate of each other and their own. The challenge I set for myself was to examine the gap between the things we can influence and those we cannot.«

Z beneško veliko nagrado žirije ovenčana zgodba o naključjih in usodi, skozi katero režiser Samuel Maoz oriše ves absurd vojaške usmerjenosti današnjega Izraela.
Zakonca Michaela in Dafno nekega dne nepričakovano obiščejo predstavniki vojske. Sporočijo jima, da je njun sin Jonathan padel med opravljanjem vojaške dolžnosti. Po začetnem šoku začnejo Michaela jeziti preveč zagnano žalujoči sorodniki in pretirano prijazni vojaški birokrati, ki zakoncema dajejo podporo. Medtem ko se Michaelova žena predaja omami, on počasi drsi v vrtinec jeze, ta pa ga privede do nedoumljivega življenjskega obrata, ki se povsem enakovredno kosa z nadrealistično izkušnjo njegovega sina v izraelski vojski.

Gre za filozofsko priliko, ki poskuša z zgodbo o očetu in sinu razbiti nejasen koncept po imenu ‘usoda’. Daleč vsak k sebi sta, vendar navkljub razdalji in popolni ločitvi med njima spremenita usodo drug drugega in svojo lastno. Izziv, ki sem si ga zadal, je bil proučiti vrzel med stvarmi, na katere lahko vplivamo, in tistimi, na katere ne moremo.«
