May 1945, Ljubljana. After the end of the 2. world wars and the Communist seizure of power many opponents of communism are leaving Yugoslavia, retreating to Austrian Carinthia to the allies of the English. In addition to the home guard wounded, doctors Dr. Janez Janez and Dr. Valentin Mershol travel with their family on the medical train from Ljubljana. Their principles and conscience are tested when faced with the cruel truth that they cannot save everyone – the survival of some will mean the death of others.

Maj 1945, Ljubljana. Po koncu 2. svetovne vojne in komunističnemu prevzemu oblasti veliko nasprotnikov komunizma zapušča Jugoslavijo, umikajo se na avstrijsko Koroško k zaveznikom Angležem. S sanitetnim vlakom iz Ljubljane poleg domobranskih ranjencev potujeta tudi zdravnika dr. Janez Janež in dr. Valentin Meršol z družino. Njuna načela in vest so na preizkušnji, ko se soočita s kruto resnico, da vseh ne moreta rešiti – preživetje enih bo pomenilo smrt drugih.
