Story
Rita Moreno Castro is a brilliant Mexican lawyer, but she is dissatisfied with her career, because her clients are most often drug dealers, murderers and rich thugs. One day, she is kidnapped on the street and taken to an unknown place, where she meets Manitas, the famous leader of a drug cartel. The man has a strange request, with which kani fulfills his own longing and at the same time escapes the hand of justice – he wants to change his gender. Rita has no choice but to accept the offer. Now her life becomes an adrenaline carousel that can quickly throw her on the wrong side of the law.
Author's statement
"My intention was to give insight into transitional identity, the theme of a chapter in the novel that inspired me to make this film. I wanted the film to take place in Mexico, which I see as a somewhat schizophrenic country, these two elements, the transition of Mannitas del Monte was Emilia P Animalrez, the gender change was supposed to match, in my opinion, the change of genre. I wanted both a telenovela and a musical, a crime drama about drug dealers, something you can't really define with a label, which is still very fluid. A drama that was constantly changing and could not be replayed.”

Zgodba

Nekega dne jo na ulici ugrabijo in jo odpeljejo na neznan kraj, kjer sreča Manitasa, slovitega vodjo mamilarskega kartela. Možakar ima nenavadno zahtevo, s katero kani izpolniti lastno hrepenenje in obenem ubežati roki pravice – spremeniti želi svoj spol. Rita nima druge možnosti, kot da sprejme ponudbo. Zdaj postane njeno življenje adrenalinski vrtiljak, ki jo lahko kaj hitro vrže na napačno stran zakona.

“Moj namen je bil vpogled v tranzicijsko identiteto, temo poglavja v romanu, ki me je navdihnil za ta film. Želel sem, da se film dogaja v Mehiki, ki jo vidim kot nekoliko shizofreno državo, ti dve prvini, tranzicija Manitasa del Monteja je bila Emilia Pérez, sprememba spola naj bi se po moje ujemala s spremembo žanra. Želel sem si namreč tako telenovelo kot muzikal, kriminalno dramo o trgovcih z drogami, nekaj, česar ne moreš zares opredeliti z etiketo, kar je še vedno zelo fluidno. Dramo, ki se je nenehno spreminjala in je ni bilo mogoče popredalčkati.”
