Creepers (Hamamelis sp.) they cheer us up with cheerful yellow, orange or red flowers when other shrubs are still numb from winter. You will notice them in the winter due to the special shape of the flowers. The tiny cotyledons on the twigs form groups of flowers, each with only four petals. The latter have the form of narrow long tabs. Since The Shape of the flowers is something special, creepers are easily recognizable and unmistakable. A special feature of the flowers is their fresh scent, which makes the sprig of witch hazel a pleasant guest in the table vase. Brightly colored flowers color the Gray of winter, and their scent is hidden in many personal care products. The shrub regulates its unusual ‘v’ - shaped growth by itself and is not pruned unnecessarily. It thrives in a slightly shaded position on neutral and acidic soil. Early flowering lasting two to three weeks, harmonious growth and beautiful autumn coloring – aren't these qualities for which creepers deserve wider recognition?
In the Arboretum Volcji Potok you can see and smell the flowering creepers in different locations: at Lake Islovec, above Hujska Loka and on the way to Jelova Draga (these bushes are the youngest, we planted them after the sledge, which was in 2014).
Nepozebniki ( Hamamelis sp.) nas z veselim rumenim, oranžnim ali rdečim cvetjem razveselijo, ko so druge grmovnice še otrple od zime. Opazili jih boste v zimskem času zaradi posebne oblike cvetov. Drobne cofke na vejicah sestavljajo skupine cvetov, od katerih ima vsak samo po štiri venčne listke. Slednji imajo obliko ozkih dolgih jezičkov. Ker je oblika cvetov nekaj posebnega, so nepozebniki lahko prepoznavni in nezamenljivi. Posebna odlika cvetov je njihov sveži vonj, zaradi katerega je vejica nepozebnika prijetna gostja v namizni vazi. Živobarvni cvetovi barvajo sivino zime, njihov vonj pa se skriva v mnogih izdelkih za osebno nego. Svojo nenavadno rast v obliki črke ‘v’ grm regulira sam in ga ne obrezujemo po nepotrebnem. Uspeva v rahlo zasenčeni legi na nevtralnih in kislih tleh. Zgodnje cvetenje, ki traja dva do tri tedne, skladna rast in lepa jesenska obarvanost – kaj niso to lastnosti, zaradi katerih si nepozebniki zaslužijo širše priznanje?
V Arboretumu Volčji Potok si lahko cvetoče nepozebnike ogledate in povonjate na različnih lokacijah: pri jezeru Otočec, nad Hujsko loko in na poti proti Jelovi dragi (ti grmi so najmlajši, zasadili smo jih po žledolomu, ki je bil leta 2014).
