The magic of Slovenian folk tales Čarobnost slovenskih ljudskih pravljic

culture

The exhibition will open on Tuesday, 6. 5. 2025, at 18: 00.

Through painting, Pia Albolena Repic explores the magic of Slovenian folk tales and draws inspiration from the stories of female characters in Slovenian folk tradition.

She has always been interested in other worlds, mysticism and fairy tales with their universal elements of opposites, fairy-tale creatures and an invitation to the depths of the imagination. In the face of difficult times, she has always found relaxation and peace in the stories throughout her life, as well as deeper thoughts that provide an opportunity to grow and broaden her horizons. While preparing the exhibition, she realized that at a time when we have access to stories and information from around the world, her knowledge of the tradition of our ancestors was lacking and she wanted to get to know him better through the art medium. He believes that the wisdom and messages about life experience that are preserved from generation to generation in folk tales are invaluable.

The red thread she discovered during her creation is the role of female characters in Slovenian fairy tales. The main character is often a shepherd or a royal who, thanks to a good heart or cunning, overcomes obstacles in his path and earns the hand of the Queen, in which he is helped by Goldfish, golden birds, fairies and other mystical creatures. The story of the Golden Bird is the story of a boy who frees her, and Pia wanted to focus on the birds that remain trapped in the cave because they were not the most beautiful, the largest, the most golden.

In each fairy tale she chose, she was attracted by the aspect of a particular character of the feminine gender or feminine qualities. She was attracted by their emotions, their anger, sadness, revenge, greed... the Fox in the story of Mojca Pokrajculja is without a doubt evil and the main opponent of the good-hearted Mojca, the author wanted to focus on the moment before the Fox's bad decision, with which everything was still too easy to identify, and wondered what the Fox felt at that moment.

Pia Albolena Repic (*1998, Postojna) is finishing her painting studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and design in Ljubljana. She works in traditional media, mostly with watercolors, but also occasionally goes into oil paints, acrylics, mixed techniques, digital illustration and animation. He seeks harmony and authenticity in his works, and seeks to share fragments of magic within himself with the world.

Odprtje razstave bo v torek, 6. 5. 2025, ob 18.00.

Pia Albolena Repič skozi slikarstvo raziskuje čarobnost slovenskih ljudskih pravljic in črpa navdih iz zgodb ženskih likov v slovenskem ljudskem izročilu.

Od nekdaj jo zanimajo drugi svetovi, mističnost in pravljice s svojimi univerzalnimi elementi nasprotij, pravljičnimi bitji in povabilom v globine domišljije.
