The exhibition architecture inventory will encourage reflection on endurance as one of the fundamental values of contemporary architecture during the two-year review of the activities of the members of the Society of architects of Ljubljana. What makes architecture stand the test of time? What spatial, social and cultural properties remain relevant even after decades of use? How do we understand the sustainability of architecture today and what future does the spaces we create allow?
Architecture is created for decades or centuries, sometimes for millennia. Its quality is manifested not only at the moment of construction, but above all in the ability to maintain its usefulness, meaning and spatial location over time. Due to climate change, limited resources, and changing social and economic needs, the issue of endurance is becoming one of the key issues in architecture.
If sustainability focuses primarily on the environmental impact of architecture and the responsible use of resources, sustainability raises the broader question of its relationship to time. It asks not only how to build with a smaller environmental footprint, but how to create spaces that remain usable, adaptable, relevant and meaningful even decades after they were created.
