Ana Skobe: (Re)constructing architecture: unbuilt series Ana Skobe: (Re)konstruiranje arhitekture: Nezgrajena serija

culture exhibition

The selection of twenty works at the exhibition of the young Master of architecture and photographer Anna Skoba (1994) brings a new perspective on famous architectural objects in Slovenia. The starting point of her interest is the architectural works of Slovenian modern architects, such as Joze Plecnik and Edvard Ravnikar, as well as the projects of contemporary architectural bureaus, such as Sadar+Vuga, Bevk-Perovi literary architects and Dekleva Gregoric architects.

In one way or another, the selected architectures managed to get the author to recognize in them the potential for rethinking through the medium of photography. She visits the selected object several times on the site, explores it and extracts one or more properties that she considers the most telling and characteristic of an individual building. He photographs the building several times to capture the most uniform illumination of parts and a uniform atmosphere. The external study and technical process is then followed by an internal, thought-creative process of re-constructing architecture.

In the works of Anna Skoba, there is no talk of digital manipulation, since it is about actually photographing the details of architectures from unusual angles. Every single piece that builds the final work is therefore realistic. The manipulation, or rather the modification of architectures, thus only occurs post festum, when the photographs have already been developed.

The author builds the final image of polyptychs through logic dictated by architectural thinking. He builds polyptychs in the form of a regular architectural grid, consisting of small square or rectangular fields resembling tiles or bricks – the building blocks of architecture. The author arranges and combines these into a picture, almost as if she were putting together a puzzle. It integrates the properties of the actual built architecture into polyptychs through the way of stacking, the logic of gravity, construction details and by moving away from the wall with spacers, thus trying to preserve three-dimensionality in architectural photography.

Zunanjemu preučevalnemu in tehničnemu procesu nato sledi notranji, miselno-kreativni proces re-konstruiranja arhitekture.
